Sora 2 vs Veo 3: which one can you still use?
In the Sora 2 vs Veo 3 choice, only Veo 3 is still on sale: OpenAI's deprecations page lists sora-2, sora-2-pro, all their snapshots and the Videos API itself with a shutdown date of September 24, 2026 and no recommended replacement (OpenAI API deprecations, checked October 26, 2026). Veo has left the Gemini API too: Google shut down the Veo 3.0 models there on June 30, 2026 and the Veo 3.1 Preview models on October 22, 2026, and points developers to Gemini Omni Flash or the GA models on its Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (Gemini API deprecations, checked October 26, 2026). That Agent Platform still lists Veo 3, Veo 3.1 and their Fast and Lite tiers (Google Cloud Agent Platform pricing, checked October 26, 2026). Veo 3.1 also runs on AIVeed, with no Google Cloud project.
OpenAI's support team confirmed there is nothing to move to inside OpenAI. Replying on the OpenAI Developer Community on October 7, 2026 to a filmmaker who asked OpenAI to reconsider discontinuing Sora, or at least preserve its API for filmmakers, developers, and professional creators

Sora 2 is OpenAI's video model with synced audio, described on OpenAI's model page as our new powerful media generation model, generating videos with synced audio
, which took text or an image and returned video at 720×1280 or 1280×720 (Wayback Machine snapshot of the OpenAI Sora 2 model page, September 19, 2026). The same snapshot already marks Sora 2 as Legacy and lists the snapshots sora-2-2025-10-06 and sora-2-2025-12-08. OpenAI notified developers on March 24, 2026 that Sora 2 and the Videos API would be removed, and removed them on September 24, 2026 (OpenAI API deprecations, checked October 26, 2026).
How much did Sora 2 cost per second?
Sora 2 cost $0.10 per second at 720p on OpenAI's API, and Sora 2 Pro cost $0.30 per second at 720p, $0.50 at 1024p and $0.70 at 1080p, with Batch at half those rates (Wayback Machine snapshot of OpenAI API pricing, September 21, 2026, three days before the shutdown). An 8-second Sora 2 clip at 720p was therefore $0.80, and an 8-second Sora 2 Pro clip at 1080p was $5.60. Verified on October 26, 2026. Sora 2's shutdown date and the absence of a recommended replacement come from OpenAI's live API deprecations page. Sora 2 prices come from the Internet Archive's copy of OpenAI's API pricing page of September 21, 2026, and the Sora 2 description from its copy of the Sora 2 model page of September 19, 2026; both were loaded and read, and OpenAI's live pricing page was checked and no longer lists Sora 2. Veo shutdown dates come from Google's live Gemini API deprecations page; Veo 3.1 rates come from Google Cloud's Agent Platform pricing page, which lists the same rates the Gemini API billed per second before October 22, 2026 (Internet Archive copy of October 21, 2026). Per-clip prices are per-second rates × 8 seconds. Forum posts were loaded in full and are quoted exactly, without usernames.
AIVeed credits come from the AIVeed model pages and the public AIVeed API model catalog and credit pricing. Dollar figures are credits × pack price ÷ pack credits, rounded once.
